Obituary

Holly Claire Crowell, 59, of West Des Moines, IA died peacefully on September 19, 2006 at the Kavanagh House. We shall miss this beautiful, vibrant woman of determined strength who faced cancer without fear, and we take comfort in knowing she has been reunited with her beloved parents. For those of us who knew and loved Holly, she will always remain in our hearts and minds as a radiant, loving, and brave mother, wife, daughter, and friend.

Born December 3, 1946 in Cedar Rapids, IA, Holly celebrated each day of her life with tenacity, a beautiful smile and pure love of being alive. She faced death with the same grace and courage that she exhibited throughout her life. Her faith allowed her to endure years of chemotherapy and radiation treatment with a strength that gave hope and courage to those who were treated along with her. Her loving smile persevered through even the most challenging and frightening moments. She devoted her life to her family and above all loved being a mother and grandmother. Her unconditional love never wavered, and she brought out the best in every person she met.

Holly is survived by her much beloved and devoted husband, Larry Crowell; her son, Bradley (Sheila) Obermeier; and grandchildren, Nicholas Bradley and Emily Claire of Ankeny, IA; son, Scott (Rebecca) Obermeier of Chicago, IL; step-daughter, Cara (Eric) Olsen of Iowa City, IA; step-son, Ryan (Ashlie) Crowell of Des Moines; sister, Linda (Jim) Mitchell of Longboat Key, FL; twin sister, Lee Ann (Charlie) Beard of Berlin, WI; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and numerous friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and Warren Winberg.

A special thanks to the following people for extending the time we had with Holly: Dr. Robert Shreck and his assistants – especially Jane and Tammy; Dr. Phillip Colletier and his staff; Dr. Mary Hlvain; and Dr. Carol Kuhle.
