Howard Alden Hanson, 81, died Tuesday, February 8, 2005. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, February 11 at Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Howard was born on June 16, 1923 in Quincy, Massachusetts, and served as a Battery Clerk in WWII. After returning from the war, he came to Iowa to attend Iowa Wesleyan College and continued his education at AIB (American Institute of Business), Drake University and Iowa State University.

Prior to his retirement as City Administrator for the City of Bondurant in 1988, Howard served as Urbandale's City Clerk and Councilman. Following retirement, he was City Administrator for Pleasant Hill.

Howard led an active volunteer life with current membership in Westminster Church, where he and Joanne were married in 1949; Urbandale Breakfast Lions, Des Moines Men's Garden Club; and the Golden Circle of Municipal Officers Association. His past activities included being a committee member of the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 96; the Urbandale 4th of July Celebrations; PTA; Band Boosters; and the Urbandale Chamber of Commerce.

He was also a past recipient of the Urbandale Citizen of the Year in 1966 and a fraternity brother of Sigma Phi Epsilon and Phi Theta Phi.

Howard is survived by his wife of nearly 56 years, Joanne; sister, Mabelle Alden of Ellenton, FL; son, Craig Hanson of Omaha, NE; daughter, Debra Seibert and her husband Tom of Hot Springs Village, AR; and two grandsons, T.J. Seibert of Conway, AR and Kyle Seibert of Hot Springs Village, AR. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and five brothers.

Memorials may be made to either: the Westminster Foundation, the Calvin Community Good Samaritan Fund or the Iowa Municipal Finance Officer's Association (IMFOA) Scholarship Fund.
