Doug Boyer, 77, died Thursday, October 20, 2005 at Hospice Kavanagh House in Des Moines. Funeral services will be 10 AM Wednesday, October 26 at the Waukee Baptist Church. Graveside services will be 3:30 PM Wednesday at Armstrong Grove Cemetery in Armstrong, Iowa.

Doug was born at home in Lamoni, Iowa the sixth of seven boys to Joseph and Genevieve Boyer. He was raised on the family farm and attended country school before he enlisted in the army during WWII at the age of 17.

Upon his return from the military he met his wife Joan at a boarding house in Des Moines and they later married on December 30, 1952. Doug worked as a tire inspector at Firestone from 1952 to 1982. In retirement Doug and Joan spent their winters in Okeechobee, FL for 17 years and spent their summers in Waukee and Humboldt. They have lived the last two years at Mill Pond in Ankeny.

Doug was a member of the Adel American Legion Post #464, the United Rubber Workers Local #310 and the Waukee Baptist Church. He enjoyed caring for his cars, gardening, studying Civil War history and most of all spending time with his family.

Doug is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years Joan, daughter Becky (John) Meyer of Crest Hill, IL, son David (Lyn) Boyer of Ankeny, brother Ronald D. Boyer of Grimes, grandchildren, John Joseph Meyer, Jason Meyer, Jacob Meyer, Jeff Boyer and Julie Boyer and many other family members and friends.

Visitation begins after 3 PM Tuesday at Brandt Funeral Home in Dallas Center where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM. Memorials can be made to Hospice of Central Iowa, Waukee Baptist Church or the Billy Graham Crusade.
