Howard Hall, 94, died Sunday, October 10, 2010 at his home in Des Moines. A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 14, 2010 at Burns United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Howard was born July 17, 1916 to Sam M. and Margaret (Thompson) Hall. He attended Waldorf Junior College, received his Bachelors degree from St. Olaf College and his Masters degree from the University of Iowa. In 1942 Howard married Berniece Vernon.

During World War II, Howard was stationed in the Pacific Theater and served with the 81st Infantry (Wildcat) Division. He received the Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars. He continued to serve in occupied Japan after the war. Following his service, Howard worked for the Veterans Administration until his retirement.

Howard was a long time member of Burns United Methodist Church. He and his wife were active in assisting African students who came to the United States to go to college. They enjoyed visiting these students in their home countries. Howard also enjoyed playing golf and bowling.

Survivors include his son Bryan (Pat Barry) Hall of Des Moines; and his grand daughter, Erika Hall of Des Moines. Howard's wife, Berniece, preceded him in death three months ago.
