Howard Ramsey, 83, passed away on Saturday, July 23, 2005 at the Rowley Masonic Home in Perry, Iowa from complications of vascular disease and myelodysplastic syndrome. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Woodward United Methodist Church in Woodward, Iowa. Burial will be at the Woodward Cemetery following services.

He was a life-long resident of Woodward. He graduated from Woodward High School in 1939. In 1942, Howard married Ruth Vernon and entered the Air Force. While in the armed services, Howard attended Oklahoma A&M. Upon discharge from the armed services in 1945, Howard returned to Woodward where he farmed and worked at John Deere in Ankeny as a machinist until his retirement.

Howard was a loving family man and was proud of the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed sports, both as a participant and spectator, and was an avid golfer. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends, reading, cards and cribbage. Howard was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Woodward Golf Club, the Woodward Cemetery Board and was a 60 year member of the American Legion.

Howard is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Ruth; children, Mike and wife Janice of Woodward; Bill and wife Linda of Grand Island, Nebraska; Sid of Des Moines; Mindy Hansen and husband Steve of DeWitt; grandchildren Jodi Jamison and husband Dan of Woodward; Toby Ramsey and wife Kristin of Woodward; Shannon Petersen and husband Dan of West Des Moines; Matt Ramsey and wife Angie of Fort Collins, Colorado; Jill Erickson and husband Jay of Lincoln, Nebraska; Jennifer Peters and husband Doug of Eldridge; Julie, Kevin and Mitch Hansen all of DeWitt; great-grandchildren, Ethan Ramsey; Riley, Reese and Rian Jamison; Ava Petersen, Jack Erickson, Tanner Ramsey and Bailey Peters. Also surviving are sisters, Martha Heckathorn of Boulder City, Nevada and Florence Heidt of Canoga Park, California. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence; and Malvina and a brother Stuart.

The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday evening at the United Methodist Church in Woodward. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Woodward United Methodist Church, 108 W. 5th Street, Woodward, 50276.
