Obituary

Isabelle I. (Graves) Diehm, 93, passed away on April 30, 2015 at the Deerfield Retirement Community in Urbandale, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 4, 2015 from 5 to 7 pm at the Iles Dunn's Chapel in Des Moines, Iowa. Viewing will be at church one hour prior to the service. Luncheon will follow the service.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church at 21275 U Avenue, Reinbeck, Iowa (in rural Grundy County Iowa) at 10:30 am on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 with burial to follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center, Iowa.

Isabelle was born on October 13, 1921 in rural Grundy County to Linn and Hazel (Arnold) Doak. She graduated from Grundy Center High School in 1939 and from Pitze's Beauty School in Waterloo, Iowa in 1942. Following that she worked for 32 years as a hair stylist. On December 22, 1946 she married Walter (Bob) Graves. They had two children, Christy Lynn and Steven Kent Graves. Bob passed away in 1968. She married Thomas Diehm in 1974 and became step-mother to his five children, Carol Ann, Kathy, Tommy, Larry, and Janet.

Isabelle was one very classy lady. She loved to play cards, dance, read, volunteer, spend time with friends and the color red. Her greatest joy in life was her family.

Those left to cherish her memories are her son, Steve (Lynn) Graves of Waukee, IA; stepchildren Carol Ann (Cliff) Reedy of Scottsdale, AZ; Kathy (John) Marshall of Springfield, IL; Larry (Sharon) Diehm of Bentonville, VA; and Janet (Tim) Glotfelty of Victor, IA. Also surviving are one sister Millie Loverin of Ruidoso, NM; two brothers John (Mary) Doak and Carroll (Pam ) Doak and sister-in-law Marcella Doak all of Grundy Center, IA; her grandchildren Aaron Graves of Des Moines, IA and Sarah (Dan) Cox of Waukee, IA; Kristen Reedy of Scottsdale, AZ; Meghan (Bob) Pemberton of Castle Rock, CO; Ellen Marshall of New York, NY; William Glotfelty of Ames, IA; and Tricia Glotfelty of Victor, IA. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren Finn Graves, Marcus Cox, Bella, Lola and Liam Pemberton; nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and her dear friend Duane Gregg. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; daughter, Christy Graves Kriz; her parents, brothers Lyle and Irvindale Doak; sister, Dorothy Marie Doak; husband, Thomas Diehm and stepson Tommy Diehm.

The family would like to thank all of the doctors and nurses at Mercy, especially Dr. Charles Keller, and the staff at Deerfield for their care, compassion and support during this last year of her life.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to United Way of Central Iowa Women's Leadership Connection or American Heart Association.
