J. Philip Boesel, Jr., age 74, died in Playa Flamingo, Costa Rica on February 18, 2007. He was born in Columbus, Ohio on May 14, 1932. He attended the University of Wisconsin- BBA, and Michigan State University-MA, Business. He was an Investment Banker and President of R. G. Dickinson and Co., President of Zaida Limited Company and First Vice President-Investments, Kirkpatrick, Pettis, Smith and Polian.

He served in the U.S. Air Force and was an Eagle Scout. He was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge and the Shrine. He was a member of the Royal Order of Jesters.

Phil was a former member of Men’s Reciprocity Club of Des Moines, District Committee #8, National Association of Securities Dealers, Committee Chairman in 1979, served as a former Governor and Vice Chairman of the National Association of Securities Dealers. Past Member and Chapter Chairman of the Iowa Young Presidents, a two term member of the Lake Panorama Association, and Treasurer of the Lake Panorama Rural Improvement Zone for two terms. He also served as a Director for several public and private companies.

He is survived by his wife, Frances D. Boesel, two sons, John P. Boesel III, Phoenix, AZ, Robert M. Boesel, Mesa, AZ and a daughter, Jewel A. Shield, Newberg, OR. Three step-daughters, Robin A. Dyleski, New York City, Dawn M. Dyleski, Union, ME, and Holly D. Taylor, Des Moines; sisters Barbara Schmitt, Chicago, Sue Bickert, Denver, CO, Vicki Molnar, Denver, CO.

He enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing, traveling and working outdoors maintaining the grounds at his home.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, May 11, 2007, at Westover Funeral Home, Hickman Avenue, Des Moines.
