Obituary

Jacquelyn Kollings, 74, of Des Moines passed away unexpectedly on Friday June 6, 2008 at her home from complications due to pneumonia and heart conditions.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday June 13, 2008 at Holy Trinity Church, 2926 Beaver Ave. in Des Moines. The visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday June 12, at Iles (Westover) Funeral Home, 6337 Hickman Road, Des Moines.

Jacquelyn, born on October 20, 1933 in Grand Forks, North Dakota, was the oldest of three children and a lifetime resident of Des Moines. Her parents were Wesley and Myrle Day. Jacquelyn graduated from Tech High School in Des Moines and attended Drake University. In her early years, she worked at the Iowa Athletic Union and then later in the newsroom at the Des Moines Register as a secretary, where she met her future husband. Jacquelyn and Thomas Kollings were married on June 12, 1954.

Jacquelyn had a fondness for staying active with weekly bingo, daily walks and 17 years of part time employment at the Burlington Coat Factory. A devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother, she loved and cherished her family above all else. She enjoyed her grandchildren's dance and musical recitals, sport and school activities, graduations and holiday time. Jacquelyn's warm and generous spirit was present always as she hosted family gatherings with her wonderfully cooked meals and patient grace. Her hobbies included gardening, puzzles and fishing with her husband.

Jacquelyn is survived by her husband Tom Kollings, brother Charles Day, sons Michael (wife Carol), Scott (wife Jenifer), and David (wife Jenna) Kollings, daughter Jennifer Sutherland-Groh (fiancé Ryan), her grandchildren Megan (husband Brett) and Jenna Kollings, Erin, Jessica and Kelli Kollings, Jacob Sutherland , Matthew and Olivia Groh; great grandson Mason Kollings and two nephews Kevin Kaupp and Jon Gibson.

Jacquelyn's selfless, non conditional loving spirit and ever optimistic attitude will be truly missed by her family and all who knew her.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Iowa in loving memory of Jacquelyn Kollings or Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
