Obituary

Jadie (Wilmoth) Appell passed away on Saturday, February 17, at Mercy Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 22, at Westover Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday with a funeral service being held at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery.

Jadie was born February 12, 1925, in Stockport, Iowa, the daughter of John and Lena (Johnston) Wilmoth. She moved to Des Moines as a young girl and graduated from Roosevelt High School.

She married Jack Joseph on November 15, 1944. They had two children. After Jack’s death, she married Don Appell on March 18, 1961.

She was a proud 64-year member of Beta Sigma Phi, an international social and service sorority; she was an avid golfer, bridge player, and was gifted at needlework.

Jadie’s life was filled with an abundance of dear friends and devoted family. She possessed an optimistic and gentle intelligence, a feisty wit, an irrepressible sense of fun, and an indomitable spirit.

Jadie will be missed by her husband of 46 years, Don; her daughter, Jill Joseph; stepson Todd Appell; and grandson, Owen Miller, of Houston, Texas. Her first husband, her son, John Joseph, and her grandson, Preston Miller, preceded her in death.

Memorials may be made to Beta Sigma Phi in care of the family.
