James Brown Obituary

James Arthur Brown, 81, Des Moines, Iowa died at Bishop Drumm Care Center on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was born January 11, 1942 in Erie, Pennsylvania to Pearl & Cora B. (Anderson) Brown.

Jim was an over the road truck driver to support his family. He taught his son, Mike, to drive and the two worked together many times over the years. At one point Jim had his own trucking business, The Snoopy Express, later driving for Crete Carrier, Loffredo, and Tommy Morris.

Survivors include son, Mike (Sue) Brown, companion of 17 years, Ann Wilson, granddaughters, Ashley Brown, Heather Greenlee, & Amber Miller, great grandchildren, Alacard, Olivia, & Aira, sisters, Frannie, & Betty, other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents, first wife, Verna Wadely, second wife, Betty Huffstettler, sons, Kevin & Scott, brothers, Darrell & Elmer, sister, Millie, and his dog, Snoopy.

He loved to watch sports and NASCAR on television. His favorite teams were the Cleveland Browns, and Cleveland Indians (GO TRIBE!). Jim had a green thumb in the garden, canning many of his vegtables for the winter. Building models of semi tractors & trailers was another hobby, designing each one with its own style.

Jim’s funeral service will be Tuesday, January 24, 2023, 12:00pm, Iles Dunn’s Chapel, 2121 Grand Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa 50312. The family will greet friends from 10:00am till service time at 12:00pm Tuesday. There will a procession to Berwick Cemetery, Berwick, Iowa, for burial. The family then invites everyone back to Capital City Moose Lodge #2589, 2515 Wedgewood Road, Des Moines, Iowa 50317, for refreshments.
