James Shorter Obituary

James Alexzander Shorter, 17, Des Moines, IA, died May 28, 2018 in Des Moines.

He is survived by mother, Selina F. Shorter and fiancé Terry Jewett, sisters, Natalie Quinn (Bennett Owens), Calena Purvis (Cody), Iesha Shade-Butts, brothers, Edward Shorter, Sr. (Jennifer), Montreal Shorter, Naji Shorter, Raymond Shorter, and Terrence Jewett.

Preceding him in death was his father, James Henry Brown, nephews, Quai Horton, and Keyonte Horton.

James was a junior at the Focus School associated with East High. He had attended Monroe Elementary, and Hiatt Middle Schools and played football in school until a back injury sidelined that passion.

James loved all sports, especially football, following his favorite team, the Carolina Panthers. Basketball pickup games at Kings Park, all music, preferably Rap, and the company of his girlfriend(s) rounded out other interests.

He will be especially missed by his younger brother, Terrence ‘T.J’ Jewett. James was his life and football mentor.

Visitation with the family present will be Wednesday, June 6, 2018, from 5 to 8pm at Grandview Park Chapel, 3211 Hubbell Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50317. Funeral services will be Thursday, June 7, 2018, 1:00pm, at the Grandview Chapel. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery, Des Moines.

A memorial fund has been established at the Veridian Credit Union on behalf of the family.
