James L. Casteel, 57, died suddenly of a heart attack in Des Moines on June 26, 2010. James was a member of Christ The King Catholic Church located at 5711 SW 9th St. in Des Moines where the family will begin greeting friends at 2 p.m. Friday. The Funeral Mass will begin at 3 p.m. Friday at the church followed by a dinner with memory sharing and fellowship.

Jim grew up in Springville, IA and graduated from the University of Iowa. He worked in construction most of his life and was currently the Lead Abatement Coordinator for the Polk County Health Department. He was a member of Iowa Council 61 AFSCME. He enjoyed gardening and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Those left to cherish Jim's memory include his wife of 38 years, Susan and daughter, Reanne of Des Moines; son, Ryan (Kim Magboul) of Iowa City; daughter, Rachel (Jon) Hendrickson and their children, Ally and Zachary of Chicago; father, James M. Casteel of Cedar Rapids; two sisters, Marcia (Fred) Hahn of Solon, IA and Nancy (Terry) Stoneking of Keystone, IA; mother-in-law, Leoma Zimmerli of Cedar Rapids; and many extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Marcella (Dye) Casteel; father-in-law, Clifford Schmidt and step-father-in-law, Zip Zimmerli.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions and cards may be directed to the family in care of Iles Funeral Homes-Dunn's Chapel 2121 Grand Ave., Des Moines 50312.

Jim will be greatly missed by all, but his spirit will always be with us.
