Obituary

James "Scotty" McDonald, Jr., 87, passed away at Mercy Hospice on Thursday, March 3, 2011. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 7, 2011 at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service at the funeral home. Cremation rights have been accorded and private burial will be at Masonic Cemetery.

Scotty was born to James and Marguerite (Piper) McDonald on September 6, 1923 in Des Moines, Iowa. He graduated from North High School in 1942. Scotty served honorably in the US Navy during WWII. On December 24, 1946, he was united in marriage to Alberta Moore. Scotty worked for Iowa Concrete Block, was Vice-President at DEMCO, and Stetsons Building Products before retiring as a consultant from Masonry Products of Iowa.

He was a 55 year member of Za-Ga-Zig Shrine where he was a charter member of the Clown Unit, Trustee and a past Potentate, 1977. He was also a member of Scottish Rite, York Rite, Order of the Q, Masons, Elks, Master Builders and CSI.

He is survived by his children, Steven (Patty) McDonald of Des Moines, John "'Mike" (Leah) McDonald of Des Moines, Leslie (Gary) Jochum of Glenwood Springs, CO, and Julie (James) Welker of Des Moines; 13 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Scotty is preceded in death by his wife, Alberta; sister, Margaret, and brother, Henry.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children or Mercy Hospice in Johnston.
