James Hughes Obituary

James Wallace Hughes, age 80 of Des Moines, Iowa died Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

On February 11, 1944 James Wallace Hughes was born to John Newton Hughes, Jr., and Jeanne MacArthur Hughes in Des Moines, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at the First Methodist Church in Des Moines. In 1961, James graduated from Roosevelt High School. He went on to attend Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa, and then Drake University Law School in Des Moines, Iowa. He specialized in general practice.

On June 17, 1972 James married Sally Fulton Mack and they were later divorced a few years later.

James greatly enjoyed playing guitar both acoustic and electric. He belonged to a Blues Society in Des Moines for quite some time. He also had an extensive very impressive record album collection.

He is survived by his niece Julie Hughes Jenkins of Phoenix, Arizona. He is preceded in death by his father Judge John Newton Hughes II, his mother Jeanne Hughes, his nephew John Newton Hughes. IV, and his brother John Newton Hughes III.

Per his wishes, a private burial was held.
