To everyone who knew Jan her faith in the Lord was apparent. Many years ago Jan was instrumental in beginning a ministry at Mount Olive Lutheran Church to nursing home residents in Des Moines. Her first venture involved taking Mt. Olive's Sunday school students to homes where they sang hymns and recited bible verses to residents. Later she established a permanent Sunday church service at the Meta Center, now know as University Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

In addition, twenty-five years ago Jan helped to found the Agape Pregnancy Center in Des Moines. Since Agape began operations, Jan served as the Executive Director and primary counselor. The organization provided free pregnancy, medical tests as well as other forms of assistance to young women and couples, such as advice about adoptions and other options in the event of unplanned pregnancy. Jan was well known for the passion she brought to helping others and presentations to churches and other religious groups around the State of Iowa. Agape began operations in a rented building in the Sherman Hill neighborhood of Des Moines. Under her leadership, Agape was able to acquire its own facilities on Martin Luther King Junior Parkway. She passed away leaving Agape, where the helping hand she provided to others was her life's mission.

A visitation will be held on Monday, December 27th at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 5625 Franklin Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50310 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.
