Janice W. (Baarda) Kamminga, born September 1, 1943, in Worcester, Massachusetts, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Sunday, March 25, 2007.

Janice married Alvin R. Kamminga on July 16, 1965. She is survived by daughter, Nancy Kamminga of Des Moines;, son Gary Kamminga of West Des Moines; her estranged husband of DeMotte, IN; sister in law, Carol Baarda of MI; sisters, Sylvia (Albertus) Faber and Thelma (Allen) Carr; many nieces and nephews in Michigan. Also surviving are special spiritual sisters, Judy Scherer from Canton GA and Nelvina Kooistra of DeMotte, IN.

Jan was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Gertrude (Vander Ploeg) Baarda and her brother Fred Baarda.

Jan had suffered many years of chronic illness. Jan was a people person and loved people, especially others that were hurting. Jan often attracted others to herself with her caring spirit. She loved doing crafts. She especially loved making cross stitch bookmarks which she gave away mostly to encourage people and sometimes just to show appreciation for those who worked with her while she was trying to recover from her illnesses. When she lived in the Quad Cities and she was there totally by herself she formed a great support group through a number of employees at the local Walmart store. They actually became family, when her children could not be there. When Jan moved to Des Moines, she really missed her Walmart family. Jan also loved to do mini quilting and other stitching needlework. Jan loved fishing, but in her later years was not able to get around well enough to do much fishing.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday at Iles Funeral Homes - Dunn's Chapel. Her going home celebration will be 10 a.m. Friday, March 30, 2007, at Dunn's Funeral Home. Burial will be held at Glendale Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Domestic Violence Shelter or the American Lung Association.
