Jap Henry Brown, 85, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at Urbandale Health Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, October 2, 2010 at Simpson United Methodist Church in Des Moines. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Pleasant Hill.

Jap was born the son of Rollie and Chloie Brown on May 30, 1925 in Corydon, Iowa. He was a graduate of Corydon High School and a World War II Veteran of the U.S. Navy. On June 4, 1955, Jap was united in marriage to Patricia Harnden at the Allerton United Methodist Church. Pat passed away May 14, 2010. They had lived in the Des Moines area for the last 54 years. Jap retired from Northwestern Bell after 40 years of service as a PBX Technician.

Jap was a very active member of Simpson United Methodist Church. He loved spending time with family and friends and enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting and cheerleading activities. Jap was a life-long outdoorsman where he went pheasant and quail hunting, raccoon hunting, fishing and rode mules with his buddies.

Jap is survived and lovingly remembered by his son, Greg (Judy) Brown and their children, Brett, Alex and Garrett of Ankeny; son, Brad (Pam) Brown and their children, Lauren and Meredith of Clive and daughter, Kim (Curt) Koeneke and their children, Kylie and Cara of Ft. Smith, Arkansas; in-laws, Lois Brown of Johnston and Robert and Mary Ventling of Coal Valley, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 55 years, Pat; his brother, JC Brown and sister, Rolene McCarty.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, October 1, 2010 at Iles Funeral Homes – Grandview Park Chapel. Memorials may be directed to Simpson United Methodist Church or Iowa Health Hospice, Taylor House.
