Obituary

Jay Norbert McCauley was born at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines on January 11, 1959, to loving parents Norbert and Helen (Packard) McCauley. He was blessed to be raised in a home where he was loved deeply and cherished. He was one of seven, and he loved each of his siblings deeply. He grew into a man who loved music and stories. Music was a part of his soul and allowed him a deeply personal form of expression. When he first heard Bruce Springsteen another part of his soul was born. He was a lifelong fan. He valued his Catholic education at Mount Michael High School and Benedictine College where he met many lifelong friends who he would always treasure. He loved to reminisce about his time as the lead singer of the infamous late 1970’s rock band Andromeda.

His life truly began when in 1982 he took a job at Creighton University where he would meet the love of his life Kirsten Schmidt. After many years of dating and asking her to marry him five times, he finally said yes when she called and proposed to him. Their marriage began on October 17th 1987. Together they would move to Des Moines, Iowa and have two beautiful daughters Elizabeth, and Erin Marie. Jay was a uniquely devoted father who fell so deeply in love with his children at first sight that they could basically get away with anything. He was a wonderfully goofy dad who made life so fun to live. He was happiest when surrounded by his girls and his family. He loved driving his racing red GTI and watching any football game he could find on TV. He especially loved rooting for his Nebraska Huskers and the LA Rams, who he was overjoyed to watch win Superbowl Fifty-Six. Jay loved his family so deeply and unconditionally with every breath of his life. He was loyal, loving, thoughtful and kind until the end.

Jay spent much of his life fighting for it. In the end Jay fought for as long and hard as he could. Unfortunately, it was his time to rest and Jay’s amazing life came to an end where it began, at Mercy Hospital. He passed on June 16th, 2022. He was surrounded by his deeply devoted wife and children who will miss him with every breath. He was a deeply spiritual man and his faith brought him comfort. He was met in heaven by both his loving parents, his eldest brother Bruce, nephew Thomas and two deeply loved family cats Mufasa and Sarabi.

He will forever be loved and missed by his siblings Mary Beth (Ron) Blake, Mark (Mary) McCauley, Patty (Terry Ozbun) McCauley, Katy McCauley, Kevin (Kim) McCauley; Nephews Joshua Blake, Nicholas Blake, Tom McCauley, Michael McCauley, Joseph McCauley, Dylan McCauley, Victor Schmidt; Nieces Karyn Constant, Julie Schmidt, Alana Blake, Hannah Ozbun: Great-nieces Ashleigh Constant, Violet Salisbury; Great-nephew Garrett Constant. Met in heaven by parents Norbert and Helen (Packard) McCauley, brother Bruce McCauley and nephew Thomas McCauley.

We love you Jay!
