Jennifer (Jenni) Sue Johnston, 65, of Altoona, IA, passed away June 19, 2020, surrounded by her family after a brief battle with cancer. She was born to the late Jack and Helen Limbaugh on March 23, 1955, in Algona, IA. She married Don Johnston, Jr. on May 25, 1974, and they had recently celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary. Jenni faithfully served alongside Don while he pastored in Knoxville, IA, Hibbing, MN, and Grinnell, IA. She also enjoyed her work at two car dealerships and as a sign language interpreter for children. After six years in Davenport, IA, where Don served as a hospice chaplain, he and Jenni "retired" in Altoona to be close to children and grandchildren.

Jenni is survived by her loving husband, Don; her four children, Aaron (Luree) Johnston, Jared (Shelly) Johnston, Heidi (Joshua) Boyd, and Jesse (Katie) Johnston; her twelve grandchildren, Isaac, Isabel, Leah, and Lydia Johnston, J.D. and James Johnston, Alexis Adamson, and Hayden, Owen, Silas, Grant and Elin Johnston; and she was eagerly awaiting the arrival of the thirteenth. She is also survived by her six siblings; Jacque (Lon) Barkema, Jan (Norm) Borst, Nita (Dick) McWilliams, Jack (Debbie) Limbaugh, Julie Limbaugh, and Jamie (Chris) Brauns. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Helen Limbaugh; her father-in-law, Don Johnston, Sr.; and one grandchild.

Jenni was known for being a loving, caring, and compassionate person devoted to her Savior, family, and friends. She joyfully displayed the gift of hospitality by opening her home to visitors and sharing meals and desserts. She regularly sought out gifts to tell others that she loved them and prayed fervently for family and friends. She was blessed with a beautiful singing voice and ability to play the piano and helped instill a love for music in each of her children. Jenni loved her family fiercely, and made each member feel special. They will miss her greatly.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 23, 2020, from 4 - 7 pm with the family present from 5 -7 pm at the Altoona Regular Baptist Church in Altoona, IA. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 24, 2020, at 10:30 am at the Altoona Regular Baptist Church with a burial service to follow at the Altoona cemetery.
