Obituary

James Leroy Anderson, of Johnston, Iowa, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2025, in Des Moines at the age of 70, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on June 19, 1954, Jim lived a life full of laughter, love, faith, and creativity. Known for his quick wit and great sense of humor, he had a gift for making others smile. Whether it was through a perfectly timed joke or a comforting word, Jim had a way of making everyone around him feel seen, valued, and happy.

Jim had a rare and beautiful gift: the ability to love people deeply, openly, and without condition. Whether it was family, friends, or even strangers, he made others feel safe, appreciated, and cared for. His kindness was not just in words but in the countless small, thoughtful ways he showed up for others. Loving people wasn’t just something Jim did—it was who he was at his core.

A man of deep faith, Jim loved God and lived out that love through his actions. His faith was evident in his generosity, humility, and the way he treated others—with patience, compassion, and grace.

Jim had a deep love for photography and music—passions he shared generously with those around him. He saw beauty in the world and captured it with his camera, often turning ordinary moments into lasting memories. His love for music filled his home and heart, providing a soundtrack to a life well-lived.

Above all, Jim was a devoted husband, a proud father, and a loving grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife, Joy Anderson; his daughters, Piper Anderson and Amber Anderson; and his sons, Jamey Anderson, Aaron (Lisa) Anderson, and Eric Anderson. He was a cherished grandfather to Blake, Archie, Evelyn, Azaliah, Rayne, and Canyon.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Oral and Lorraine Anderson; his brother, Larry Anderson; and his sister, Joanne (Alan) Haskins.

His legacy of kindness, faith, and joy lives on through all who knew him. Jim will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His spirit, sense of humor, and unwavering love for others will be remembered and celebrated always.

A celebration of life will be held at The Mission Church on Tuesday, June 10th at 11:30, where family and friends will gather to honor his memory and the joy he brought into the world. His family will greet friends immediately following the service with a meal. He will be interred at Pine Hill Cemetery.
