Obituary

James Albert Harper, 81, passed away Saturday, August 28, 2021, at his home surrounded by his loving family. The family will receive friends from 10 am - 12 pm Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at Iles Grandview Park Chapel in Des Moines. Services will follow at 12 pm. Burial will take place at 9:30 am Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel, Iowa.

James was born September 17, 1939, in Nashville, TN, to Albert and Ethel (Underwood) Harper. He married Sue (Aldiano) Harper on June 28, 2003.

Jim was a hardworking self-made man. He created and owned his own business, Altoona Storage. In 2019, he decided to retire and sold his business after more than 20 years. Jim loved to fish and camp. He also enjoyed playing pool, collecting antiques, singing karaoke and DJing at the Senior Center. Jim truly loved his pets, Princess and King, as well as his pet raccoon. He also liked to hear and tell a good sharp-witted joke.

Jim is survived by his wife, Sue Harper; daughters, Diana Schneider, Sherri Harper; son, Roger Harper; goddaughter, Chifang Davis; 5 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; brother, Charles Harper; nieces, Lisa Woods, Julie Wyatt, Amanda Howse, Tammy Brown, Lori Colon, Pam Judkins; nephew, Donny Judkins. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Bobbie Jean Judkins, Lois McGinnis; and niece, Karen Arrington.
