JoAnn Willcockson Obituary

JoAnn Willcockson, 82, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 19, 2024 with family by her side. She was born November 21, 1941 to John and Margaret (Borg) Miller. She grew up in the Highland Park Neighborhood and graduated from North High School. JoAnn lived her entire life in Des Moines, Johnston, and Grimes. As a young woman she worked at Central National Bank.

After marrying and starting a family, JoAnn worked within the Johnston School District in many different capacities. This allowed for her to be home with her children until entering the full-time workforce again at a later date.

She enjoyed music concerts, eating out, and traveling, as well as anything related to her church and supporting her children, grandchildren, and their families. She was a devoted follower of Jesus and a faithful member of New Hope Assembly of God.

JoAnn is survived by her loving husband of six years, Fred Vanderley; son Tim (Deb) Willcockson; daughter Tracey (Kelley) Orman; grandchildren Cory (Michelle), Emma (Nate), Ben (Kaitlin), Jessica (Caleb), and Nathan; great-grandchildren Jaymin, Adayla, Siena, Stephen, and Emerson; sister Connie (Denny), and sister-in-law Sharon. She is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Paul, and brother Denny.

In lieu of flowers, JoAnn’s family requests that memorial contributions be made to the New Hope Assembly of God.
