Obituary

Joan Baker Falke was born 3/27/1923 to Ruby Abbott Baker and Albert B. Baker. Joan grew up in Missouri and served in the US Marine Corp during WW II. She married Roy Falke in 1946 and together raised a family of 3 boys. The family moved to Des Moines in 1962 where Joan worked various clerical jobs in the West Des Moines area. She worked at the WDM Library for 12 years until 1988. Joan was a member of the Women Marine Association and Wild Rose of Iowa. Joan was an active member of First Federated Church, especially enjoying her volunteer work supporting the missionaries.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband and only siblings, brothers Wilfred and Stanley. Joan is survived by her 3 sons - Don of Nikishi, Alaska - Ron (LeaAnne) of Winterset - Mark of Des Moines. Also surviving are her are the 10 grandchildren she loved dearly: Lonnie, Cora, Lora, Kelly, Brenda, Dan, Dave, Jake, Joe, and Brooke. She is also survived by 13 great grandchildren and a host of lifelong friends and relatives.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 pm on Sunday 12/6 at Westover Funeral Home located at 6337 Hickman Road with funeral service to be held at McCroskie Baptist Church in Carrolton, Mo. at 11 a.m. on Monday 12/7/09.
