Joanne Woolery Dunlap
Des Moines

Joanne Woolery Dunlap, 84, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, May 31, 2012, at Scottish Rite Care Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Urbandale, Iowa, with a reception to follow. Cremation will follow services and private inurnment will be held at Masonic Cemetery in Des Moines.

Joanne was born on March 28, 1928, in Avant, Oklahoma to Amanda (Owen) and Alva Woolery. After graduating from high school in 1945, she moved to Bartlesville, OK and worked for Phillips Petroleum where she met her future husband. Joanne married H.A. Dunlap on July 1, 1948 in Bartlesville, OK. After several work related moves they settled in Urbandale, Iowa in 1961 where they made their home and raised their two children. In 2010 they moved to Scottish Rite Park.

Joanne was the secretary at Aldersgate United Methodist Church for many years and later worked for two years for Wesley Acres, retiring in 1982. She was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, UMW, Beta Sigma Phi, Daughters of the Nile, Order of the Eastern Star, Church Women United, Social Order of the Beauceant, Blank Memorial Guild and Wesley Acres Guild.

Joanne is survived by her husband H.A. "Al" Dunlap, her children Bruce (Ann) Dunlap of Iowa City, and Diane (Al Hohrmann) Dunlap of Des Moines, IA; her grandchildren, Ian Dunlap and Ellen Dunlap, both of Iowa City, Iowa; her siblings, Louise Cobb of Washington, UT and Eugene (Peggy) Woolery of Bartlesville, OK and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Royal Woolery, Roger Woolery and Peggy Selby.

Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Monday at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel, 6337 Hickman Road in Des Moines. Joanne was a twenty year breast cancer survivor. Memorial contributions may be made to Susan G. Komen Foundation. Online condolences may be sent to IlesCares.com.
