John Burch Obituary

John LeRoy Burch, 83, passed away from complications of heart failure on November 9th at his home.

John was born May 18, 1941, in Des Moines, Iowa to John and Rosie Burch. John married Marilyn Massey on April 10, 1964. John and Marilyn have lived in the greater Des Moines area all of their lives.

John attended Adelphi Calvary Baptist Church in Runnells. He sat in the same seat of the same pew every Sunday at church. John retired as a plumber and operator of Fairground Plumbing in 1998 and was a member of the Local 33 Plumbers and Steamfitters Union for over 50 years. John enjoyed hunting and fishing, telling “big fish stories” and jokes that only he understood.

John is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marilyn; children Michele (Rob) Battles; and Gary (Tammy) Burch; 6 grandchildren Dustin (Megan) Battles; Tanner (Bethany) Battles; Meredith Battles; Danny Burch-Vallejo; Hallie Vallejo; and Emilyn Burch; 3 great-grandsons Clark Battles, Jonah Battles, Zion Battles and 1 great-granddaughter, Maya Battles.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters.

Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 am on Friday, November 15, 2024 at Adelphi Calvary Baptist Church, 7925 SE Vandalia Road, Runnells, Iowa. The funeral service will begin at 11:00am and burial will follow at the Warren-Powers Cemetery.
