John Casey Obituary

John, 84, passed away on April 3, 2025. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m., with his funeral mass at 11 a.m., on Friday April 25th at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Norwalk. For those unable to attend in person, the service will be livestreamed at

John, the son of William and Clara Casey, was born June 21, 1940 in Darwin, Minnesota. He grew up on his family farm in Minnesota and was the oldest of four children. John left farm life to attend trade school in Minneapolis. He worked in the airline industry for 42 years with time in Chicago, New York, Waterloo and Des Moines. He was united in marriage with Barb Fortun on January 4, 1969. John and Barb wintered more than 18 years at South Padre Island, Texas.

John enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, traveling, was active in his church and the Knight of Columbus. Although he left his family farm as a youth he continued hobby farming until retirement. Work didn't stop at retirement as he continued doing home and equipment repair for himself, family and friends.

John was preceded in death by his wife Barb; his parents, William and Clara; sister and brother- in- law Margaret and Jim Langfeld.

John is lovingly remembered by his children, Darin (Kim) Casey and Dawn Casey; grandchildren: Elizabeth Casey, Emma Casey, Andrew Casey, and Gavin Smith; sister, Claire (Walter) Matthews; brother, William (Jo) Casey.
