Obituary

John Duane Bodermann, 84, passed away at Fountain West Health Care Center on Saturday, November 22, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 26, at the St. Peter Lutheran Church in Grimes with burial to follow at Sunny Hill Cemetery.

John was born September 24, 1930, to Otto and Lenora (Schmidt) Bodermann in Elma, IA. He married Mary Ann Bonker on July 1, 1961, and this union produced four children, David, Paul, Max and Jane. He was confirmed at St Peter Lutheran Church in Elma, IA in 1945, and graduated from Elma High School in 1949. After working on the family farm, John was drafted into the US Army and served from 1953 to 1954. He attended Hamilton School of Commerce and became an auditor and bookkeeper, which took him to Des Moines. He supported his family through the years by working at the Farmers Grain Dealers, Savery Hotel, De-Co Engineering, and finally retiring from the US Postal Service. His radio was always tuned to 1040AM-WHO, listening to either news or sports. He especially enjoyed high school sports tournaments. If he was not listening to the radio or reading the paper, he could be found tending a large garden that he enjoyed.

John is survived by his four children, David Bodermann of Des Moines, Paul Bodermann of Grimes, Max (Jeanette) Bodermann of Granger, and Jane (Rob) Roose of Waverly; three sisters, Marie Rabenberg of Orlando, FL, Irma Jensen of Elma, and Leona (Harold) Reed of Truman, MN; five grandsons, Evan, Alex, Andy, Sam and Luke, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann; his parents; and a brother, Dale of Elma.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., on Tuesday, November 25, at Iles Brandt Chapel in Dallas Center.

Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Peter Lutheran Church in Grimes, of which John was a member for 36 years. Faith and family were very important to John.
