Obituary

John Cohoon (Dick) was born on May 13, 1934 to Clifford and Hazel. He had one sister, Wanda, whom he loved very much.

Throughout his life, he was an over-the-road truck driver. It was this that allowed him to see many parts of our country.

Dick would go on to marry his childhood sweetheart, Vivian (Vicky). Together they would share many wonderful years and have four daughters: Joyce Renee, Joanne Rae, Jacquelyn Rachel, and Jill Robin (Randy). His girls were his greatest blessings, and through them, Dick and Vicky had eight grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

During the 1970’s Dick and Vicky owned and ran several businesses in Des Moines, Iowa including, a cafe, auto shop, and gas station. Then, in 1978, they moved the family to Leon Iowa and spent 12 years in the rural community.

Dick could usually be found working on just about anything with a motor. He was a “man’s man”. Together, with his wife, Dick enjoyed playing cribbage, going camping/fishing with his family, and traveling. He was quick to help when he could, and his sense of humor was unmatched. He had a love of dogs and had many during his life.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents (Clifford and Hazel), sister (Wanda), daughters (Joyce and Joanne), and his true love (Vicky). He is survived by daughters (Jacqueline and Jill), grandchildren (Daniel, Christina, Billy, Zach, Joseph, Bryan, and Kyle), and many great-grandchildren.

Dick was a devoted husband and father. He was reunited with his soulmate in Heaven on November 16, 2024. His life was full and he will be greatly missed.
