Obituary

John Thomas Hanrahan, age 76 of Houston, Texas, beloved father, grandfather and friend to many went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 2, 2010. He succumbed to heart failure during a brief illness.

John was born July 22, 1933 in Des Moines, Iowa to John (J.J.) and Margaret (Irene) Hanrahan. Upon graduation from Roosevelt High School in 1951, John joined the U.S. Army and served overseas. After receiving an honorable discharge from the service, John studied at the University of Iowa, earning a B.S. in Business Administration. He went on to enjoy a long-term career with Conoco, now ConocoPhillips, which spanned a 33 year period until his retirement in 1986. Retirement did not last long, as John started a new career in graphic design and he was currently employed as a Graphic Design and Web Specialist with Pride International, Inc.

John loved the game of tennis, the history of our country, celebrating his Irish heritage, and conservative politics. He was a loving and supportive father and grandfather and profoundly touched the lives of those who knew him.

John is survived by his children Lacey Riley and her husband Charles of Flower Mound, TX; Lori Carl and her husband Paul of Austin, TX and their 2 children Nickolas and Kelli; John Patrick Hanrahan and his wife Christa of Austin, TX and their 2 children Patrick and Hannah; his brother Vince Hanrahan of Des Moines, IA; and his sisters Rosemary Leahy of Overland Park, KS and Virginia Kinney of West Des Moines, IA.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 8, 2010 at 10:00am followed by a memorial service at 11:00am Iles Funeral Home Westover Chapel, 6337 Hickman Road, Des Moines, IA 50322; gravesite service to follow at Glendale Cemetery.

A memorial service will be held in Houston, TX on August 7, 2010 with location and time to be determined.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes contributions in John's memory to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, P.O. Box 4072, Pittsfield, MA 01202.
