Jon Anderson White of Des Moines, 59, hat-wearing husband and dear friend, house builder, home inspector, musician, singer, songwriter, story teller, and man about Sherman Hill, died unexpectedly on Friday, May 25, while attending an annual Memorial Day camping event held this year on the Buffalo River in Arkansas.

Jon is survived by his wife, Judy McClure; his mother, Margaret White; aunt, Alice Hartman; sister, Christine Cook and her husband, the Rev. Charles Cook; brother, David White and his wife, Marcia Spangler; sister, Karin Payne and her husband, Britt; his brother-in-law, John McClure and wife, Jan; his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; numerous friends, colleagues and fellow travelers. He was preceded in death by his father, Harris Hull White and Jon's infant son, Eric David White, who both died in 1971.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 31, at Westover Funeral Home at 65th and Hickman from 4 to 6 p.m. A memorial service and celebration of Jon's life will be Friday, June 1, at the Grand Hall of the Temple for the Performing Arts, 10th and Locust in downtown Des Moines from 7 to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Jon A. White Memorial Wildlife Habitat and Meditation Garden c/o West Bank.
