Obituary

It deeply saddens us that Josephine (Grasso) Vitiritto left this world on October 13, 2013 at Bright Kavanagh House, surrounded by her loving family.

Josie was born on May 28, 1920 to Leonard and Bombina (Covello) Grasso in Des Moines, Iowa. She was a very proud graduate of East High School.

Josie met Joe Vitiritto on a blind date in 1939, and they were married the following year. To this great marriage seven children were born: Angie (late Rick) Spratt; Mary Ann (Stan) Frew; Margaret (Craig) Porter; Joe (Ronnie) Vitiritto; Leonard (Soozie) Vitiritto; Carmie (Chris) Bush; and Anna (late Tom) Bush. She also is survived by a sister, Ann (Len) DePhillips and a brother, Joe (late Marge) Grasso. She was preceded in death by a brother, Tony Grasso; twin brother and sister, Charlie Grasso and Rose Barbieri; and a sister, Carmella Belluchi.

She loved each and every one of her 24 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Josie started the hot lunch program at Visitation Catholic School with Rita Coury and Mary Nogel. She and her sister Carmella (Minnie) Belluchi started the hot lunch program at St. Peter's Catholic School. To us and her many many friends whom she helped raise, she was one of the best cooks!!

Her passion for her faith was demonstrated through her daily prayers and devotion to her church and family.

She loved to spend time at any casino, cooking for a holiday family meal, or just having family and friends around her.

Mom was our biggest supporter, whether it be at a sport activity, music program, dance recital, wedding, etc!! We will truly miss her tender touch, wise advice, and never-ending hugs and kisses.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Bright Kavanagh House and the "HCI Metro Team" for the tremendous care and love shown to Mom during her final days.

Memorials may be directed to the family for future distribution.

Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 16, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, E. 18th and Des Moines Streets. Funeral mass will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 17, at the church. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery.
