Obituary

On July 3, 1928, Joy "Dean" Malone was born in Dallas Center to John and Sarilla (Weber) Malone. He graduated from Dallas Center High School, 1946, and was a Corporal in the Army during the Korean conflict.

In 1953, he married Ann Laube and had two sons, Loren and Gordon. He worked for Hy-Line in Dallas Center, retiring after 40 years.

Dean loved country music and was a huge Motocross, NASCAR, and Stockcar racing fan. He was the photographer for many years at the Boone and Des Moines Stockcar Races.
A gifted photographer, he documented countless weddings and everything else, big and small. At 93, he took aerial photos in Boone. At 95, Dean climbed a ladder in the back of a pick-up truck, just so he could get that perfect shot!

As a detail-oriented person, meticulous record keeper, and incredibly sharp mind, Dean wowed others with his ability to recall information.
A keen traveler, he took numerous road trips all over the United States. For almost 40 years, Dean and his green thumb kept his favorite Australian heirloom tomato variety going through careful seed saving, documentation, germination, and growing.

Dean will be fondly remembered by his brother Johnny (Pat ) Malone, daughter-in-law Kathy, 3 grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, dog Marcus, and many friends and neighbors.
Special thanks to his caregivers Ethel, Kim, and Aubrey.

Dean's family and friends would like to express deep gratitude and appreciation to Margie Kenyon for all she did for Dean.
