Kathleen A. Mitchell, 78 entered eternal life on July 25, 2021 at Unity Point Taylor House in Des Moines. There will be a visitation from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm Thursday, July 29, 2021 at Iles Funeral Homes - Dunn’s Chapel 2121 Grand Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Friday, July 30 at the Spencer Cemetery in rural Buckingham, Iowa.

Kathleen was born in Waterloo, Iowa on July 2, 1943 and grew up on a farm east of Buckingham, Iowa. She was the daughter of Maurice S. Beale and Marion E. (Minish) Beale. She is survived by her two sons, Clayton, Rodman and one daughter Meredith Burnison; two grandchildren, and a sister Roxanne Johnson.

After graduating in 1962 from Geneseo Consolidated High School and attending Iowa State University Kathleen was involved in farming and land management in Iowa. Kathleen also worked as an insurance broker/agent for 1201 Financial & Insurance Service, the Dental Insurance Company of California as a Long-Term Care Insurance Specialist.

Kathleen was honored as the Iowa Hereford Queen in 1960 at the Iowa State Fair and was named Queen of the Ak-Sar-Ben Livestock Show in Omaha. She was a champion exhibitor at many Hereford Cattle shows across the Country (National Western Stockshow in Denver, Chicago International, and the Iowa State Fair among other places). She loved her involvement with the Tama County 4-H program for 9 years in her youth. She also enjoyed decorating for the holidays, cooking, and landscaping.

Kathleen earned her private pilot license in the 1970’s and was a member of the Nighty-Nines Woman’s Flying Organization
