Kathleen Carter Obituary

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Kathleen, an extraordinary woman of 80 years, whose legacy of compassion, kindness and generosity has touched the lives of everyone around her, leaving a lasting impact.

Her love for family, cooking and baking for Sunday and holiday dinners, baking dog treats for her grand-dogs, interior decorating, organizational skills, crafting, binge-watching her favorite TV shows, fashion, creating jewelry and Scherenschnitte (German scissor cutting designs) all brought immense joy and created cherished memories, making her life a shining example of love, laughter, and inspiration. She was greatly loved and will be deeply missed.

Kathleen Ann Carter, 80, was surrounded by family and passed away peacefully on March 16, 2025, at UnityPoint Iowa Methodist Medical Center. She was born January 27, 1945, in Watertown, Wisconsin to Wallace and Barbara (Bergerson) Klinger, Jr.

Kathy attended school in Watertown, WI and graduated from Valley High School in West Des Moines. She worked many years at Sears Credit, Data Business Equipment (DBE), Dahl’s and Boesen’s The Florist (Inside Dahl’s locations). She married Douglas Schroeder who she had their 3 children with.

Kathy is survived by her children, Steve Schroeder, Jon Schroeder and Stefanie Garvis (Husband George); grandchildren, Brittney Schroeder, Kaylee Schroeder, Bailey Schroeder, George Garvis, Gwen Garvis; great grandchildren, Quentin, Mari and Avi; Brother, David Klinger (CA) and Brother-in-Law, Rudy Straube (CA).

Kathy is preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert Carter; father, Wallace Klinger, Jr.; mother, Barbara Klinger; sisters, Kristine (Klinger) Schmidt and Sally (Klinger) Straube.

She will be cremated, and a celebration of life will be held Friday, May 2, 2025, from 4:30 - 7:30 PM at the Jordan Creek Boardmoor - Clubhouse, 6565 Wistful Vista Drive, West Des Moines, Iowa with friends and family.
