Kathryn Haberlein Nicholson, 95, passed away Monday, July 19, 2004 at Hospice Kavanagh House in Des Moines. Private family graveside services will be held at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Lamoni.

Kathryn was born the daughter of Ernest and Ann Clara (Dudley) Haberlein on April 1, 1909 in Independence, Missouri, where she lived for 42 years. Kathryn lived in Shawnee, Oklahoma for four years and then moved to Des Moines, where she had lived for the last 49 years. Kathryn was a homemaker, community volunteer, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Kathryn was a member of the Des Moines Women's Club, PEO Chapter GY, Questers Ding Darling chapter, Hannah Circle at Westminster Presbyterian Church, a sewing circle and several bridge clubs. She was also a former member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Kathryn was a remarkable woman. At 95 she lived independently, was socially active, and continued to knit, sew, embroider and cook using her extraordinary talents. These handmade items, made for family, friends and organizations, are her legacy and will be treasured forever. She will be loved and cherished like a fine antique.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth in 1987; and brothers-in-law, Blair Nicholson and Edmund Kelley. Kathryn is survived by her daughter, Mary Kay Trainor of Pueblo, CO; granddaughters, Anna S. Trainor and Sarah Trainor Shepherd (Willie) of Denver, CO; grandson, Nicholas Trainor of Greeley, CO; sister, Ruth Kelley of Billings, MT; sister-in-law, Mary Jane Nicholson of Fullerton, CA; and cousins, the William Hopkins family of Des Moines.
