Obituary

Keith Daniel Miner, 41, passed away peacefully on August 25th, 2024 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, surrounded by family, after courageously battling ALS for more than thirteen years. The family will greet guests from 5-8 pm with rosary following on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at the Assumption Catholic Church in Granger. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, August 30, 2024, at Assumption Church. Burial will be held at Beaver Catholic Cemetery.

Born on March 3, 1983, Keith was a lifelong resident of Granger, IA and the youngest of three children born to Dan and Cindy (Jones) Miner. He attended Assumption Catholic School through eighth grade and graduated in 2001 from Woodward-Granger High School, where he excelled in football, baseball and basketball. Keith was a sports fanatic and he enjoyed playing softball, flag football and basketball in his adult years. When he wasn’t on the field, you could find him watching the Philadelphia Eagles, Iowa Hawkeyes or the Lakers. He loved going to NASCAR races and was able to meet his favorite driver, Kenny Schrader, several times. He was a fierce competitor whether it was slow pitch softball, a high school football game or a Monopoly matchup “just for fun”. He hated losing and would make sure everyone knew when he was the winner. Keith also enjoyed fishing and his trips to Canada with his uncles were some of his favorite times. Keith always wanted to race cars, so he purchased his first stock car in 2007 and jumped in headlong despite his lack of mechanical knowledge. He spent many days and nights working on the car and racing at the dirt tracks in Boone, Marshalltown and Suart, IA. Keith worked as a mortgage broker prior to his diagnosis, and though his career was short lived, he really enjoyed his job and he was good at it. Keith worked hard at everything he did. He did not do anything halfway. He was smart, opinionated and did not hesitate to speak his mind. He cared deeply for his friends and was always there to lend a hand or offer advice (unsolicited or not).

On October 4, 2008, Keith married Lindsay Harvey at Assumption Catholic Church in Granger. Keith was a devoted husband and loving dad to his three sons. His family was his pride and joy. He loved his aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents. He was very close with his parents and siblings and loved his nieces and nephews dearly. He passed on his love of sports to his boys and they had such a special bond through watching games together every weekend. He loved going to their games and cheering them on. Keith founded the non-profit organization, Racers Against ALS after his own diagnosis. He was able to raise over $100,000 to offset expenses for other ALS families. Keith was kind, selfless and generous to all who were in need.

Left to cherish his memory are his parents, Cindy and Dan Miner of Granger; wife, Lindsay Miner of Granger; sons, Cole, Lake and Knox of Granger; sister and brother in law, Carrie and Kurt Moats of Granger; brother, Ryan Miner of Urbandale; grandfather, Kenny Magnani of Granger; nieces and nephews, Pacey, Ethan, Kelsey and Cameron Moats of Granger, Alyssa and Olivia Miner of Urbandale and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Keith will be reunited with his grandparents, Bev Magnani, Charlotte and Bart Miner and Stephen Jones.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Keith’s family.
