Obituary

Kim Lee Greenfield died peacefully surrounded by his family of complications from Alzheimer’s disease on April 9th, 2023.

Kim was born to Lawrence and Iris (Wilson) Greenfield on July 4, 1952 in Blairsburg Iowa. He attended Northeast Hamilton schools and graduated in 1970. He excelled in basketball and baseball and was part of the 1968 state basketball tournament team. He went on to attend Iowa Central Community College, Luther College, and DMACC where he graduated in diesel tech. He then started to work at Gibbs Cook/Ziegler Caterpillar as a diesel mechanic, before moving to sales and continuing his successful 33 year career there. He was respected my many in the industry receiving numerous awards, and retired in 2008. Upon retirement from Ziegler he continued to work by fulfilling a dream of working alongside with his brothers at the business they co-owned and “officially” retired in 2018.

He married the love of his life, Dianne Swanson, on June 23, 1973. Kim’s greatest joy was his family and they had 3 wonderful children together, Kyle, Megan, and Kendra. They spent their years together golfing, snow skiing in Colorado, cheering on the Cyclones, and spending time in Lake Okoboji. He was blessed with 7 grandchildren who he found so much joy in. They brought so many smiles and they made him so proud. People who knew Kim described him as a jokester and music buff with the kindest, most compassionate heart.

He is survived by his wife Dianne, three children, Kyle Greenfield, Megan Seifert (Zach), Kendra Ziemke (Travis),his grandkids Ryenn, Stella, Harper, Steele, Brinkley, Caden, and Mason, his mother Iris Greenfield, 4 siblings, and numerous extended family members on both Greenfield and Swanson sides. He is preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Greenfield, his in-laws Dean and Franne Swanson, and his nephew Blake Foster.

His family would like to thank Kelsey Maxwell for the love and care given to Kim as his Alzheimer’s worsened. They are forever grateful for her part in his journey.

Memorials may be sent to the Windsor Heights Lutheran Church building fund, of which Kim was proud and passionate about, or the Iowa Chapter Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org/Iowa. To help honor Kim, the family invites you to wear purple for Alzheimer’s to the services.

A visitation will be held at Windsor Heights Lutheran Church on Thursday, April 13th from 4-7 pm and the funeral will be held on Friday, April 14th at 11 am with a luncheon to follow, also at Windsor Heights Lutheran Church.
