Kurvin Fish Obituary

Kurvin Fish, 86, passed away Monday, November 3, 2003 at Taylor House in Des Moines, Iowa. Memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 8, 2003 at the Waukee United Methodist Church where the family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Memorials can be made to his church, Waukee Lions Club or Taylor House of Des Moines.

Kurvin was born December 8, 1916 in Sharon, Kansas. He met Helen Margaret Cobb in Centralia, Illinois while attending Brown's Business College. They later married on September 24, 1939 in St. Charles, Missouri. To this union was born two daughters, Barbara and Peggy.

Following his graduation from Brown's Business College, Kurvin worked in the oil industry for many years, which brought him to Ankeny, Iowa. While working in Des Moines, Kurvin met Don Lamberti and in 1967 they founded a business named Square Deal Oil Company which later became Casey's General Store Corporation, named after Kurvin's initials. Kurvin was the first President and CEO of Casey's and retired in 1981 with over 300 Casey's General Stores in existence.

Kurvin was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Merle and Chafin; and his daughter, Barbara Ann Stone.

He is survived by his wife, Helen; his daughter, Peggy and her husband Ed Rasch of Cherokee, Iowa; a sister, Maysel Mitchon of Aransas Pass, TX; two brothers, Clifford and Otto of California; six grandchildren, Martha Ann (Peter) Kraiek, Robert D. Stone, Dr. Sue Stone (David Wasson), Richard E. Stone, Andrew D. Stone and Margaret (Dennis) Wilson; three great-grandchildren, Matthew Park, Barbara Ann Park and Holly Stone; and his sister-in-law, Edna Ruth Cover and her husband Bob.
