LaMar “Jim” Otto Freel, 93, passed away on Wednesday, April 11, 2007, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 14, at Sundberg-Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Madrid, where the family will greet friends from 12 noon until the service hour on Saturday. Burial will follow at Lincoln Township Cemetery, near Alleman, Iowa.

Jim was born on July 17, 1913 at Polk City, Iowa and lived there most of his life. He was a 1932 graduate of Alleman High School. In 1936, Jim married Sylvia Routson. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Raedene and LaMar. In 1952, Jim married Mildred “Mickie” Leonard and she preceded him in death on December 22, 1990. He was formerly employed as a landscaper for 20 years, and later retired from Polk County Secondary Roads.

He is survived by his daughter, Raedene Radcliff of Renton, WA; five grandchildren, Dixie Bridges, Dawn Ryan, Rob Radcliff, Bryan Radcliff and LaMar Freel Jr.; 12 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; companion of whom he shared a home, Elsie Miller of Polk City; and sister, Norma McLaughlin of West Des Moines. In addition to his wife, Jim was preceded in death by his son, LaMar Harold Freel on July 29, 1991; and six brothers and sisters.
