Larry A. Branda, 74, passed away due to a torn aorta on Wednesday, August 15, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 21, 2012, at Des Moines First Assembly of God Church, 2725 Merle Hay Road. Cremation rites will follow the services on Tuesday with a graveside committal service held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 8, 2012, at Wilson City Cemetery, 455 2nd Road in Wilson, Kansas.

Larry was born on February 1, 1938, in Dorrance, Kansas to Alfred and Minnie (Keller) Branda. After his parents passed in 1941, he was raised by his Branda grandparents. Larry was an Eagle Boy Scout, president of FFA and attended Boys State. He played football, basketball, baseball, and track and was the first player to score 30 points in a basketball game at Wilson High, Class of 1956. He attended Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas, earning a BS degree in biology in 1962.

Larry worked in sales most of his life, including as the owner of Branda Insurance Agency and, in 1997, as an independent consultant with Mannetech health food supplements. He enjoyed golf, fishing, camping, bowling, and hunting. Larry was a member of Des Moines First Assembly of God Church and Choir. He married Clydene Evans on August 11, 1990, in Des Moines, and they made their home in Clive.

Larry will be missed by his loving wife, Clydene Branda of Clive; daughters, Michelle Branda of Kansas City, Kansas and Megan Vespestad of Olathe, Kansas; three stepchildren, Reginald (Leslie) Evans of Mesa, AZ, Rex (Debra) Evans of Webster City, IA; and Rae Jean (JD) Merritt of Winterset, IA; six step-grandchildren and a great step-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, August 20, 2012, at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Manna Relief. Online condolences may be sent to
