Larry Lenfred Link was born June 29,1935, on the family farmstead in rural Maxwell, IA, in the same room where his father and grandfather had been born. He grew up in San Diego, graduated from Hoover High school and San Diego State University, and served in the Army as a psychiatric social worker.

Following military service, Larry bicycled around Europe for six months. He married Nancy Samcoe, a college friend's sister from upstate NY, in 1963. They moved to Iowa and lived in the Ames-Des Moines area where they enjoyed the arts community and farmed on the family homestead.

In Iowa, Larry was also a social worker for the state and made educational films with Del Nett under Cine-image, Ltd. Larry was active in the Des Moines theater scene and was president of the Drama Workshop. His ballroom dance teaching career began right after college and continued through his participation in Des Moines' Castle Club and the Red Friars of Ames.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Mabel Ballard Link, and is survived by his wife Nancy Samcoe Link. He will be cremated with his ashes interred next to his parents in the Loring church cemetery.

Condolences may be sent to Nancy at 12605 Woodlands Parkway, Apt. 262, Clive, IA 50325. Memorial donations may be made to the Castle Club, Red Friars or a charity of your choice. There will be a memorial celebration at 2 pm on June 29, 2019, Larry’s birthday, at First Unitarian Church of Des Moines, 1800 Bell Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50315.
