Larry Peterson of Madrid, Iowa passed peacefully at the Madrid Home surrounded by loved ones and loving staff. Larry was born in Winterset, Iowa on September 21, 1940. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Barbara (Berg) Peterson; his son George Peterson of St. Charles, Iowa and his children Tyler Meador and her Husband Meredith, Maverick, and Logan; his daughter Heidi Peterson of Ottumwa, Iowa and her fiancé Bill Munsell; his son Aaron Peterson of Madrid, Iowa and his wife Jodi (Luse) Peterson and their children Grace and Gabe; his sister Joy Willey and family.

Larry was a hard worker all of his life, working mainly 2nd and 3rd shifts so he was free to attend his children’s activities. He retired from MidAmerican Energy in 2003 after 38 years of service. If you needed directions in Ankeny or Des Moines you just had to call the gas man. Larry was a huge supporter of the Madrid Tigers and the Madrid community from sporting events, Labor day celebrations, and the arts. From sports to plays and family events; if family was involved or Madrid there was a Mr. Memory/LPTV video production and pictures. He cheered and supported like only he could, loud and proud, booming laughter, tears, hugs, and love and congratulations for all. And definitely silly faces.

Larry instilled a love of travel, adventure, and camping in his children from many trips in the Big Red Truck. He taught his kids and many other kids to ride bikes, drive and shoot safely. He had fun, made everything a game and there was laughter always. He was a Mr. Fix It and could work on it all from engines to plumbing if he had tools and duct tape it was fixed. Larry had the gift of gab. He never met a stranger and loved to talk to people especially when he stopped for coffee at ball games and Casey’s. Larry was everyone’s friend, kind, soft hearted, loved animals, kids, and old people. He was generous with his praise and time for anyone who needed it and especially his family. Mr. Memory left his family with happy hearts and full souls. A dedicated husband, father and friend. Never quit, do your best, always help and family first.

There will be a visitation at noon at the St. John’s Lutheran Church Tuesday January 15, 2019, followed by a service and luncheon at 1p.m. Please come casual, because “if I can’t wear jeans, I don’t have to go”.
