Obituary

Lawrence Woodrow Rissman, full of years, finished his earthly pilgrimage on September 13, 2014. He was born a farm kid in Abilene, Kansas on October 16, 1919 to Paul and Bertha Rissman, and died in a different century. Larry attended Missouri State College but left to serve his country in the Army Air Force in the Pacific Rim (Guam) in WWII. He came to Des Moines to work for a local construction company. Here he met and married Paula 65 years ago. They had 3 kids, 7 grandkids and 6 great-grandchildren.

Larry was a great husband, father, grandfather and supporter to his family. Douglas Avenue Presbyterian Church was an integral part of his life for many years.

Larry was a sweet natured man who loved his grandkids, fishing (especially at Sun Valley Lake) and the Chicago Cubs baseball team. The other passion in his life was his work. Larry managed C.L. Carroll Co. for 50+ years and successfully passed it on to his son Jon.

These last years, Larry suffered with progressive Parkinson's disease.
We are thankful this part of Larry's journey has come to an end. We celebrate his life and the gifts he gave us.

Larry was preceded in death by 4 brothers and his parents. He is survived by his wife, Paula, and children Jeff (Susie), Loree Miles (Dave) and Jon (Cherie), all residing in the Des Moines area.

A visitation (11am) and funeral (Noon) will be held at Douglas Avenue Presbyterian Church, 4601 Douglas Ave., on Tuesday, September 16th followed by lunch. Details available at ilesfuneralhomes.com.

Memorial contributions may be given to Douglas Avenue Presbyterian Church or the National Parkinson's Foundation (www.parkinson.org).

ARRANGEMENTS BY ILES WESTOVER CHAPEL.
