Obituary

Leatha B. Zika, 92, died on September 24, 2005 after a long and rewarding life.

Leatha was the former Leatha Stennett, daughter of Raymond and Mayme Stennett of Afton, Iowa. She was born in Afton and was a graduate of Arispe High School. Leatha was employed as a secretary for Des Moines Stove Repair, worked for American Republic Insurance Company, and then for many years worked in the claims department for Western Mutual Insurance Company, before her retirement. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Leatha was married to Frank Edward Zika on May 7, 1937 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Des Moines. Frank preceded her in death on July 16, 1970. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Marjorie Wright and Shirley Dix.

Leatha enjoyed playing bridge, traveling, fishing, and the casino, but most of all she enjoyed friends and family. She was active in Pilot's Club (civic organization). She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be greatly missed by them all.

Survivors include daughter, Judy Kascoutas of Marshalltown; son, Gary Zika (LaVon) of Sun Prairie, WI; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and her beloved nieces and nephews.

There will be a memorial service at Scottish Rite Park Penthouse in memory of Leatha at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 1, 2005. Memorials to Leatha may be made to Hospice of Central Iowa.
