Linda Johnsrud-Gebhardt Obituary

Linda A. Johnsrud-Gebhardt, 77 of Des Moines, Iowa passed away on December 30, 2024 after a brief illness. She was born on November 25,1947 to Stuart and Grace (Barnes) Johnsrud and grew up on the family farm in Schley, Iowa.

She graduated from Rudolphinum High School in Protovin, Iowa and then went on to graduate from Creighton University with a degree in Social Work. Following college graduation Linda spent weeks traveling Europe. She thoroughly enjoyed her travels abroad and shared her memories often and always with a great big smile on her face. She then went on to pursue social work in Nebraska and Iowa.

Linda later moved back to Schley and to work in the family business her father founded, Schley Cheese Company. She wore many hats and ultimately served as the General Manager. She enjoyed working with customers and learning the cheese and dairy business. Under her leadership the company won many awards for their cheese.

In 1987 she married William (Bill) J Gebhardt. He brought Linda a rose every day. They lived in Decorah, IA and Sparta, WI. Bill passed away suddenly after a brief illness in 1990.

Following her husband’s death, Linda went to work for her brother Leon at Johnsrud Transport in Des Moines, Iowa. She was a devoted employee and worked for over 20 years in the accounting department. She thoroughly enjoyed her work and considered her co-workers family.

Faith and family were of utmost importance to her. She was an active member of St. Augustin’s Church in Des Moines, IA. She spent many hours studying the Bible and enjoyed sharing her faith through teaching and conversation. A cherished memory was a trip to the Holy Land. She was a much beloved sister, aunt and friend to many. Linda always had a kind word and a way of making people feel good about themselves.

She is survived by her brothers TJ Johnsrud of Conrad, IA and Lowell Johnsrud of Pleasant Hill, IA; beloved former sister in-law Margaret (Svoboda) Johnsrud; nieces Jackie (Jeff) Gordon, Kristin (Jack) Wilson and Keri Johnsurd; nephews Mike (Kim) Johnsrud and Jason (Pamela) Johnsrud.

She was preceded in death by her husband William J. Gebhardt, parents Stuart C. and Grace (Barnes) Johnsrud, brother Leon Johnsrud, beloved former sister in-law Jude (Wilkins) Johnsrud and nephew Stuart R. Johnsrud.

Visitation will be held Thursday, January 30, 2025 at Iles Dunn’s Funeral Home, 2121 Grand Ave, Des Moines, IA from 4:00-6:00 PM and will conclude with the Rosary.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Augustin’s Catholic Church, 545 42nd St, Des Moines, IA on January 31, 2025 at 10:00 AM followed by Interment at St. Benedict’s Cemetery, Decorah, Iowa.
