Obituary

Linda Lee (Heithoff) Romitti, 82, of Altoona, Iowa passed away peacefully, Wednesday, September 18, 2024 in Altoona, Iowa.

Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at Ss. John and Paul Parish, 1401 First Ave S., Altoona, Iowa. Visitation will be held an hour before the funeral service. Linda will be interred with her husband, Dr. Marion A. Romitti, at 12:30 PM at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa.

Linda was born October 30, 1941 in rural Manning, Iowa by kerosene lamp to Linus Heithoff and Marguerite (Kisgen) Heithoff. She grew up in Templeton, Iowa through 4th grade. The family moved to Manning, Iowa while Linda was in 5th grade. Linda graduated from Manning High School in 1959. She attended Northwest Institute of Medical Technology in Minneapolis in 1960.

Linda worked as a laboratory technician at Saint Francis Hospital in Grinnell, Iowa from 1960-1962. She then worked at the Beaverdale Clinic in Des Moines, Iowa from 1962-1965.

She married Marion A. Romitti on May 15, 1965 in Manning, Iowa. The new couple lived in Centerville, Iowa from 1965-1973, where both her sons were born. While there, Linda received her Associate of Arts Degree and completed her LPN program from Indian Hills Community College in Centerville, Iowa.

The family moved to Madrid, Iowa in 1973. Linda graduated from Grandview College, Des Moines, Iowa with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1979. She worked at the Woodward State Hospital School as an Area RN and then for the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals until her retirement in 2006. Linda was named Employee of the Month, Iowa Surveyor of the Year and Regional Surveyor of the Year in 1997. The nomination form called her the “Romitti Committee” because she got so much work done. Linda recorded her travels and drove every paved road in Iowa over the years.

Linda moved to the Cedars in Madrid, Iowa in 2018 and then Prairie Vista Village in Altoona, Iowa in 2020. She always loved to read and travel.

She is survived by her son, Barry Romitti (Yvonne), son, Marty Romitti (Angil); sister Joan (Heithoff) Justice; eight grandchildren (Jacob, Lexi, Clayton (Becca), Lydia, Jeremy, Roman, Josh and Drew) and two great-grandchildren, Nora and Roland.

Linda was preceded in death by her husband Marion (April 18, 2022), her father, Linus Clayton “Chub” Heithoff (July 2, 2008) and mother Marguerite “Marge” Elizabeth (Kisgen) Heithoff (March 1, 2019).
