Lloyd Sievers, 85, of Altoona, Iowa, passed away June 11, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. Visitation will be held at Grandview Park Funeral Home/3211 Hubbell, DM, Thursday, June 14, 2012, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with the family present. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 15, 2012, at Christ the King Lutheran Church/600 1st Avenue, Altoona, Iowa at 10:30 a.m.

Lloyd was born in rural Storm Lake, Iowa, July 15, 1926, to Henry and Emma Sievers. He graduated from Newell High School in 1943 and farmed with his father until his two older brothers returned from military service, when he enrolled in the College of Engineering at Iowa State.

After graduating with an Electrical Engineering Degree in 1949, he went to work for Iowa Public Service. In 1954, he came to Des Moines to work for Iowa Power and Light Company for the next thirty years, at which time he became the general manager of Enerex. Retiring from Enerex, Lloyd became a consultant in England for a year and a half as the British utility industry was being privatized.

Lloyd was married to Anne Tice in July, 1950. With their two children, Philip and Kathryn, they moved to Altoona, Iowa, in 1955, where he spent many hours projecting in their home. He was a real do-it-yourselfer, announcing only several years ago that he thought the house was FINALLY completed.

In the course of his life, Lloyd served 20 years in city government as councilman and mayor, served on the board of Metro Solid Waste, and was a member of Rotary. He was a life-long active member of the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod. He remained a loyal, active, Iowa State enthusiast all his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Iona, his brothers, Wilbert and Vernon. He is survived by his wife, Anne, and his children, Philip (Beatrice) of Plainfield, IN, and Kathryn of Altoona, IA.
