Lois McMillen Obituary

Lois Mae McMillen, 92, of Des Moines, IA, passed away on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at Scottish Rite Park in Des Moines.

Lois was born on September 4, 1932, in Des Moines, IA, to J. Wilbur and Georgia (Ladson) Nelson. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1950. Lois married Deward McMillen on August 9, 1952, at Immanuel United Methodist Church in Des Moines. They spent their entire married life in Des Moines. Lois was a dedicated mother and homemaker and also worked for Brenton Bank.

Lois was a lifelong member of Immanuel United Methodist Church, participating in church circle, bridge groups and serving on various committees. She also volunteered for the Red Cross. She enjoyed fishing and tending to her flower gardens.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Deward, who passed away in January 2020; a brother, John Nelson; a sister, Roberta Ellerbroek; and a daughter-in-law, Deb McMillen.

Lois is survived by three sons: Kirk (Gina), Kent (Jacque), and Kip (Gayle), all of Des Moines; a daughter, Keri Harris (Steve Scott) of Cedar Rapids; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Lois wanted to express her heartfelt thanks to Scottish Rite Park for the cherished memories she and her husband, Dewey, shared there, and to the healthcare staff for their exceptional care and compassion.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at Immanuel United Methodist Church, where visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will follow at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery near Van Meter, IA.
