Lois Van Cleve was born in Maywood, IL in 1924. One of the highlights of her childhood was attending the 1933 World's Fair in Chicago. After graduating high school, she worked briefly in a Walgreen soda fountain.

She married Allen Van Cleve in 1945, a graduating student at McCormick Seminary. They began marriage and ministry in Lewistown, IL where Allen preached and Lois sang in the choir for four years. Sons Dale and Jeff were born during that time. New Year's Day 1952, the young family moved into the Presbyterian manse in Chippewa Falls, WI in a blizzard. By then, third son, John, had joined the family.

Lois kept a tidy house and reined in three rowdy boys. During their Chippewa tenure, daughter Deborah was born, which changed the whole dynamic of family life. A third a final move was made in 1961 to Cedar Rapids, IA, where Allen ministered to the congregation at Central Park Presbyterian for 22 years. Lois would join Allen in singing occasional duets in worship services. She watched her brood grow through years in school and church, school activities, graduations, weddings, and moving away from home.

Allen retired in 1983 and he and Lois moved to Swathmore, PA where they enjoyed new friends, crowds, and playing tour guide to many friends who visited and wanted to explore the sights and history of the area. They arrived in the Woodlands Halloween Day 2005, where Lois enjoyed the company of fellow residents, daily walks, and daily devotions.
