Obituary

Lola L. (Vriezelaar) Hymans, 84, passed away August 5, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 8, 2007 at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Following services Lola will be cremated and a private burial will be held later at Highland Memory Gardens.

Lola Louise Vriezelaar was born June 5, 1923 in Otley, Iowa, the daughter of James and Drickie (Rootselaar) Vriezelaar. She was a graduate of Iowa Methodist School of Nursing. Lola married H. Harold Hymans on December 12, 1945 in Des Moines, Iowa. They had lived in Altoona and Des Moines.

Lola was a retired Registered Nurse and was Director of Nursing Services in skilled long term care facilities. In 1975 she was certified in Geriatric Nursing by the American Nurses Association. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Questors, and Widowed Persons of Central Iowa. She enjoyed music, collecting antiques and collectibles, travel and church activities.

Lola was preceded in death by her parents, husband, H. Harold, sister, Gertrude (Trudie) Carr and son-in-law, Doyle B. Smith. She is survived by her children; Beth (Thomas) Sullivan of Western Springs, Illinois; Kathryn Hymans-Smith and H. James (Denise) Hymans both of Des Moines; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church or The Easter Seal Society's Camp Sunnyside.
